Lift Health and Fitness is passionate about helping people battle and overcome this disease. We are currently training clients that suffer from both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We believe exercise is one of the main roles in helping in recovery. Exercise helps the body to regulate the blood sugar levels. The pancreas decreases insulin production during exercise. Exercise increases insulin sensitivity; it magnifies insulins effect on glucose uptake into muscle. The same amount of insulin under exercise stress will have a much greater effect than the same amount at rest. Muscle contraction increases glucose uptake into muscle independent of insulins effect. Exercise is a vital component for recovery and management of diabetes.
At Lift we believe people suffering with diabetes have special needs and require close monitoring when it comes to exercise. A main source of fuel when exercising can sometimes be glucose. If the body is deficient in this it can go into hypoglycemia. This is what many type 1 people with diabetes are at risk of. With this in mind, Lift tailors a specialized exercise plan that keeps blood sugars stable and helps clients see much improved results in their blood sugar levels. Many trainers can be unaware of the special attention and different needs that are associated with diabetes sufferers.

Thats all the bad news out of the way, so heres the good news! If you suffer from type 2 diabetes YOU CAN eliminate this disease all together. This can simply be done by, proper nutrition, good exercise program and lots of determination. If you suffer from type 1 diabetes, you dont have to resort to insulin straight away.
